de.par.ture \ n 1: the act of going away.

it happens to all of us at some point.
one way or another.

tinkering with some new textural techniques.
working from a book by maxine masterfield called 'painting the spirit of nature'.
saw this piece by marti m. fenker in the book and thought i'd try my hand at her(?)
technique to recreate it.
also threw in a few of my own.

(my apologies to uselessjack.)

Daily Deviation

Given 2007-12-31
Peoples choice for the last Daily Deviation of 2007 is D E P A R T U R E by `dholms and with very good reason. Lovely use of tones, colour, texture and compostion, it truly entices the eye. ( Featured by RockGirl1582 )

It's funny....I just 'got' this piece: I just noticed the very subtle lines
defining (very nicely, I must add) The Butterfly. If you look to your left,
you will see my Avatar ~ it took me several months, if not a complete
year to think up an Avatar; one deviant actually volunteered to make
one for me! It's a moth (I believe) that I found ~ dead ~ in Grand Marais,
Minnesota, and shot it 8 ways to Sunday...found a favorite take and
retouched it a bit and added a drop shadow. Then my mother died, in
2007, and I wanted to make a Thank You Card for those who gave or
came to her memorial...and this little moth became that card's cover.
It's title: Departure
Very interesting ~ wouldn't you agree? I'm glad yours is in my FAVES.
And CONGRATS on the DD....dick g

hey man thanks for that excellent comment.
so sorry to hear about your mom.
strange how we sorta connected on a common wavelength.
but then again, maybe not so strange.
brothers. sisters. brethren.
that's what we all are.
we're all surfing the same waves.
in our own way.
seriously. thanks.

Hey, thanks for writing back.
Well, not to worry: Mom died exactly
5 months shy of her 99th birthday.
yes, maybe many of us are on the same
wave, or wavelenght....a nice thought.
Have a great day!! yeah, and we're both
into plastic wrap too. WOW!

This is the AWESOME I was referring to.
I play around with a lot of types of plastic ~
from Glad Wrap to much thicker stuff, just placed
over wet W/C ~ at various stages of wetness. Looks
like you rather bumped the Saturation up on this,
which does not hurt this one at all.Beautiful....
